Okay, so here’s what I’ve been thinking about…as a result of this post:

And as I’ve been pondering that, this verse came up at Bible study:

Colossians 4:5-6 NLT
Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

A response requires a question. Live wisely among unbelievers, and have the right response for them when they ask questions about your faith in Christ.

And then I thought of this one:

1 Peter 3:15 NASB
“…always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.”

Again! They will ASK YOU a question. The conversation seems to start with THEM. Hmm…

Jesus said to the to-be disciples, “Come, follow Me.”

Multiple times, Jesus said things that caused people to stop following Him. For example:

Luke 9:24
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.”

Luke 14:26
““ If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.”

John 6:54
He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

Mark 10:21
Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.””

He wasn’t afraid to not have followers. He invited others to Him; some followed, others chose to live their own lives instead of a life with Him.

Very interesting!!!

As I was thinking about this, this post came up in my Reader here on WordPress:

So what are your thoughts on evangelism?

  1. In my life, I have noticed that the most effective evangelism begins with an obedient life. When we put Christ first and ourselves last our decision making process and the decisions we make become radically different from the lost world. It is this difference that sparks a lost persons interest in our life. I believe this is what 1 Ptr 3:15 is speaking about.

Once their curiousity and interest begins it opens up their heart making them more receptive to the gospel that we can share with them. When we simply try to force the gospel “down their throats” without hte Lord previously preparing their hearts to receive it, we are simply “banging our heads against a wall.”

Lord bless you and your blog ministry. May our Lord be glorified in all things.

    1. Rob,
Thank you for replying! That was very insightful. Their hearts definitely have to be softened and prepared soil to receive the gospel. It’s why youtube comments and discussions are pretty much always fruitless.
